Chocolate Chip Rugulah
History: Rugalah, rugelach, rugglach, rugulah, rugala...There are as many ways to spell the name of this traditional Jewish pastry as there are fillings to put in them. In the old country, the pastry was made with butter instead of cream cheese and they were shaped like crescent rolls. Our “modern” version is filled with walnuts and chocolate.
Uses: As an accompaniment to coffee or hot chocolate (try dipping them); to bring you up when you’re feeling down; a special treat for a special friend.
Description: Chocolate chips and walnuts rolled up in a sweet cream cheese pastry dough with a hint of almond and cinnamon. A moist, yet flaky pastry perfection.
Ingredients: Pastry flour, butter, walnuts, chocolate chips, cream cheese, egg, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, powdered sugar, almond extract, vanilla, salt.
